2016 Alliance Co-Chair
In September 2015 Michael Johnson was named Director for the Pasadena Public Health Department (PPHD). As the Public Health Director, Mr. Johnson is responsible for the overall planning, administration and operation of the PPHD. In his position with the PPHD, Mr. Johnson has participated in department restructuring to address the transition of clinical services to community based clinics, Public Health Accreditation preparation, expansion of nutrition services programming, as well as in the establishment of a new system of care mental health services program for youth.
Prior to working for Pasadena, Mr. Johnson was the Assistant Director for the Merced County Public Health Department and the City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services. Mr. Johnson has a bachelor’s degree in Social Ecology from the University of California, Irvine and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Southern California, including a Certificate in Judicial Administration. Michael has attended the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard State and Local Leadership Program, Fresno State University Health Policy Leadership Program, and Leadership Long Beach, and was previously the President of the Southern California Public Health Association. Michael is a member of the American Public Health Association, and currently sits on the Huntington Hospital Community Benefits Advisory Board, the City of Hope Community Benefits Advisory Board, is the Chair of the Pasadena Continuum of Care for Homeless, and is on the Pasadena Unified School District Blair High School Health Academy Advisory Board.
